Dr. Jason Wilson is an Adjunct Professor of History at the University of Guelph and Sessional Lecturer at Guelph-Humber, with a career bridging academia and music. His research focuses on Canadian popular culture, reggae, hockey, and First World War studies. Holding a PhD (2013) and MA (2003) in History from Guelph and BA degrees from York University, he has designed courses like HIST*2280 Hockey in Canadian History and UNIV 1200: The Arts in Motion.

Wilson’s scholarly work spans Canadian reggae, hockey’s historical ties to war, and public utilities. His five major publications analyze intersections of sports, migration, and cultural identity, with a focus on Jamaica-Canada-Britain networks. He has received accolades including SSHRC and OGS fellowships, Juno and Reggae Music Award nominations, and the Joseph Brant Award (2021-2022) for King Alpha’s Song in a Strange Land.

His lab, Soldiers of Song, explores music’s role in wartime storytelling.
