Jason Sowell is an Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Architecture at the University at Buffalo’s School of Architecture and Planning. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Tennessee and a Master of Landscape Architecture from Harvard University. His research focuses on climate change adaptation, particularly how landscape-oriented infrastructures guide urban resilience through housing and management practices. Sowell has been recognized for his work with awards from institutions like the CELA (2010), Cleveland’s Urban Design Collaborative (2007), and the Texas Society of Architects (2020). He previously directed the Master of Landscape Architecture Program at The University of Texas at Austin and co-founded SSAU, a design studio exploring socially-oriented interactions between landscape and architecture.
