Jason Rodriquez is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Massachusetts Boston, specializing in medical sociology, aging, and disability studies. His research explores the emotional and organizational challenges of healthcare work in intensive care units (ICUs) and nursing homes, focusing on care dynamics, identity, and inclusive practices.
His peer-reviewed publications include the 2025 book On the Frontlines of Crisis: Intensive Care and the Challenge of COVID-19 and the 2014 book Labors of Love: Nursing Homes and the Structures of Care Work. His recent articles examine pandemic-induced changes in ICU teamwork, inclusive sports programs, and identity development among youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Rodriquez’s current research, supported by the UMB Center for Social Development and Education, investigates how inclusive school clubs and sports programs enhance social integration and identity formation. His methodological focus is on qualitative approaches to understanding healthcare systems and social inclusion.
Rodriquez earned his PhD in Sociology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He has published extensively on topics such as hospice utilization, medical decision-making, and the cultural appropriation of hip-hop, reflecting his interdisciplinary engagement with healthcare, aging, and social movements.
