Dr. Jason Rauceo is a Professor of Molecular Biology at the Science Department of John Jay College, City University of New York (CUNY). He specializes in molecular mechanisms of fungal pathogenesis, particularly in Candida albicans, focusing on adhesion, stress adaptation, and antifungal compound discovery. His research is NIH-funded and has trained numerous undergraduates.
- Education:
- Ph.D. (2006): Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology, CUNY Graduate Center
- MPhil (2002): Biology, CUNY Graduate Center
- B.A. (1999): Biology, Hunter College
- Postdoctoral Training: Microbial Genetics at Columbia University
Research interests include fungal adhesion proteins, stress signaling pathways, and novel antifungal agents. His work bridges molecular biology and pharmacology, with implications for combating drug-resistant fungal infections. He has authored over 10 peer-reviewed articles and secured $1.5M in federal grants as Principal Investigator (NIH) and Co-PI (NSF).
Dr. Rauceo has received multiple awards for mentoring, research, and service, including the John Jay Scholarly Excellence Award (2022) and NYC Council recognition (2015). He teaches courses in molecular biology, microbiology, and genetics, emphasizing experiential learning.
His lab collaborates with institutions like Columbia University and employs advanced techniques such as single-cell force microscopy to study fungal interactions. Current projects include mitochondrial function in stress tolerance and antifungal compound development.
