Jason Park

Jason Park is a Professor in the Department of Pathology at UT Southwestern Medical Center, specializing in genomics, laboratory medicine, and pediatric gastrointestinal pathology. He serves as Chief of the Division of Genomic and Molecular Pathology and directs the Advanced Diagnostics Laboratory at Children’s Medical Center Dallas and the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory at UT Southwestern. His research focuses on molecular diagnostics, cancer therapeutics, and nanotechnology, with 14 US patents to his name. Dr. Park holds editorial leadership as Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Chemistry.

Education: BS/MD from Pennsylvania State University/Jefferson Medical College, MD/PhD through Thomas Jefferson University’s Gibbon Scholar program. Pathology residency and chief residency at the University of Pennsylvania, followed by a gastrointestinal and liver pathology fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Certified in Clinical Chemistry (molecular diagnostics) and Anatomic/ Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology.

Research Interests: Integrates genomic and molecular approaches to address challenges in diagnostics, particularly in pediatric gastrointestinal disorders and cancer. Active in translational research for immune-related adverse events in cancer immunotherapy and metabolic therapies for genetic disorders like Glut1 deficiency. His work bridges laboratory innovation with clinical practice, emphasizing precision medicine and diagnostic accuracy.

Publications & Recognition: Over 250 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and abstracts. Notable contributions include studies on immune-checkpoint inhibitors, SARS-CoV-2 variant detection, and re-evaluation of genomic test results. Media engagements include features in the New York Times and Reuters. Honors include Fellow of the College of American Pathologists (FCAP).

Grants & Leadership: Leads research initiatives in genomic reinterpretation and molecular diagnostics. Advocates for improved healthcare workforce data and laboratory transparency through publications and surveys on pathologist job markets and Medicare payment trends.
