Dr. Jason Lawrence is a Senior Lecturer in English (1500-1700) at the University of Hull's School of Humanities within the Faculty of Arts, Cultures, and Education. He holds a PhD from the University of Oxford. His research focuses on Anglo-Italian literary relationships, Shakespeare, and English Renaissance drama, with a particular emphasis on the cultural exchange between Italy and England during the Renaissance.
Lawrence's major works include two monographs: Tasso's art and afterlives: the 'Gerusalemme liberata' in England (2017) and ‘Who the Devil taught thee so much Italian?’ (2006). He regularly contributes to interdisciplinary studies on Renaissance literature, art, and cultural history. He is affiliated with the Andrew Marvell Centre for Medieval and Early Modern Studies.
Recent publications explore topics such as Shakespeare's Italian sources in Twelfth Night, Tasso's reception in English poetry, and the intersection of art and literature in early modern Europe. His teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate levels, covering modules like Intercultural Shakespeares and Research, Creativity and Engagement.
