Jason Hustedt is a Professor and Interim Chair in the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences at the University of Delaware, affiliated with the College of Education and Human Development. He leads research on early childhood policy, focusing on equity in education, state pre-K programs, and family-child interactions in underserved communities. His work includes large-scale evaluations of state programs like Arkansas Better Chance and New Mexico Pre-K, emphasizing policy implications for disadvantaged populations.
Research Interests:

- Outcomes of public pre-K programs on school readiness and racial/ethnic disparities

- Policy analysis of suspension/expulsion standards in early education
His current NIH-funded grant with Gerilyn Slicker examines how CCDF subsidy policies influence diversity in childcare enrollment. Prior work includes authoring State Preschool Yearbooks for NIEER and analyzing pre-K financing strategies. He teaches courses on child/family policy and serves as Research Director at Delaware Institute for Excellence in Early Childhood (DIEEC), which provides direct early childhood services and professional development.
Key collaborations include the PreK in Family Child Care Project and NIEER, where he is a Senior Research Fellow. His research consistently prioritizes equitable program implementation and policy solutions to reduce achievement gaps.
