Jason Furman is the Aetna Professor of the Practice of Economic Policy at Harvard University, jointly appointed at Harvard Kennedy School (HKS) and the Department of Economics. He also serves as a nonresident senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics. His research focuses on U.S. and international macroeconomics, fiscal policy, labor markets, and competition policy. Furman co-teaches Ec10 'Principles of Economics,' Harvard's largest course.
He previously served as Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers under President Obama (2013–2017), acting as the administration's chief economist. His professional affiliations include roles with the Russell Sage Foundation, Brookings Papers on Economic Activity, and the Washington Center for Equitable Growth.
Education: Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University. Recent research emphasizes fiscal sustainability, Biden administration economic policies, and post-pandemic economic recovery. Sponsored projects include the Tax Reform Grant funded by Peterson Solutions Fund.
