معرفی
Jason E Archer is an Assistant Professor of Communication and Media Technologies in the Department of Humanities at Michigan Technological University. His research focuses on human-machine communication, haptic technologies, and the intersections of embodiment with emerging media. He explores how tactile qualities in technologies like robots and holograms shape social interactions and reinforce power dynamics.
Recent work includes studies on haptic holograms, published in the International Journal of Communication, and contributions to edited volumes such as The SAGE Handbook of Human-Machine Communication (2023) and Reimagining Communication: Experience (2023). His research also examines the ethical implications of tactile design in social robots, published in Android, Assembled: The Explicit and Implicit Anatomy of Social Robots (2025).
Archer has presented at venues like Uncommon Senses V (2025), where he introduced the theoretical concept of 'technical material' to analyze emerging media. He has received a Top Student Paper Award from the International Communication Association (ICA) for work on robotic surgical assistants.
