Jason Brooker is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education, Sport and Health at the University of Brighton. He transitioned from primary school teaching, where he specialized in ICT and was nationally recognized, to academia in 2017. His roles include teaching undergraduate and postgraduate modules in education, focusing on science pedagogy and curriculum development.
Education qualifications include a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics with Applied Mathematics/Mathematical Physics from Imperial College London (1992), an MSc in Astronomy from the University of Sussex (1994), and a PGCE in primary education. He is currently pursuing a Master’s in Education, researching digital tools for enhancing science subject knowledge in teacher training.
Research interests center on using online scaffolds and digital simulations to support primary science education. His teaching approach, informed by social constructivist theory, emphasizes practical enquiry and reflection to develop students' pedagogical and curriculum knowledge. He contributes to modules like 'Teaching Primary Science' and 'Effective & Creative Teaching of Primary Science.'
