Jason Amsden is an Associate Research Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University's Pratt School of Engineering. His research focuses on improving spectroscopic instrument design through computational and compressive techniques, particularly in mass spectrometry and cycloidal analyzer systems. He holds a Ph.D. from Boston University (2008). His work emphasizes enhancing spectral resolution and instrument performance via innovative designs like coded apertures, virtual slits, and cycloidal trajectory control. Amsden collaborates on projects involving MEMS, nanotechnology, and bioresorbable materials for biomedical applications, such as implantable sensors and silk-based biophotonic devices. His recent publications (2020–2025) explore underwater mass spectrometry, planetary science instrumentation, and vacuum microelectronic systems.
Research interests include miniature mass spectrometer development for environmental and planetary sensing, cycloidal mass analyzer optimization, and integration of carbon nanotube field emitters. His lab (CAMMS) develops compact, high-performance instruments with applications in analytical chemistry and aerospace. Amsden’s contributions span over 70 peer-reviewed articles, with a focus on advancing spectroscopic methodologies and interdisciplinary engineering solutions.
