Jason Adams is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Rice University. He specializes in catalytic systems that convert waste chemicals and oxygen into value-added products through combined thermal and electrochemical processes. His research integrates reactor engineering, operando spectroscopy, and material synthesis to understand catalytic mechanisms at atomic and macro scales.
Education:
- 2024 Postdoc in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, California Institute of Technology
- 2022 Ph.D. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
- 2015 B.S. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology
Research Focus: Dr. Adams develops high-throughput flow reactors and uses operando spectroscopy to study reaction networks in catalytic systems. His lab investigates how material properties influence reaction rates/selectivities, particularly for hydrogen peroxide and propylene oxide synthesis. Key areas include nanoparticle catalyst design, interfacial reaction mechanisms, and solvent-mediated redox processes.
Lab Activity: The Adams Lab focuses on creating sustainable chemical manufacturing pathways through electrochemical and thermal catalysis. Current projects explore PdPtOx catalysts for propylene epoxidation and automated reactor platforms for catalyst screening.
