Ive Hermans

Ive Hermans is the John and Dorothy Vozza & Evan P. and Marion Helfaer Professor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, affiliated with the College of Engineering's Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering and the Chemistry department. His research focuses on sustainable chemical synthesis using homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts, combining catalyst synthesis, spectroscopy, kinetics, and computational modeling.

His group investigates industrially relevant systems such as:

• Hydrogen peroxide activation for oxidation reactions
• Oxidative dehydrogenation of alkanes
• Hydrocarbon coupling
• Biomass-derived platform molecules
• CO2 hydrogenation

Current trends in his research highlight mechanistic insights via in situ spectroscopy and reactor design optimization. The group will relocate to Johns Hopkins University in late 2025.
