Jasmine Ma is a postdoctoral researcher at UiT The Arctic University of Norway's Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Clinical Medicine, specializing in child and adolescent mental health research with a focus on Nepal. Her work addresses critical gaps in understanding emotional and behavioral problems (EBPs) in low- and middle-income countries through large-scale epidemiological studies.
Her research interests center on child mental health epidemiology, cross-informant agreement in mental health assessment (comparing parent, teacher, and adolescent self-reports), cultural aspects of mental health assessment, and the family correlates of emotional and behavioral problems. She has conducted extensive research on how different cultural, ethnic, and caste backgrounds in Nepal influence mental health perceptions and reporting.
Ma's publication record demonstrates a clear trajectory of research examining mental health from multiple perspectives in Nepali school settings. Her work consistently addresses methodological challenges in cross-cultural mental health assessment and provides valuable data on the prevalence and correlates of emotional and behavioral problems among Nepali children and adolescents across different informant types.
She collaborates extensively with an international team of researchers including Sirjana Adhikari, Per Haakan Brondbo, Bjørn Helge Handegård, and Anne Cecilie Javo, indicating strong interdisciplinary connections between Norwegian and Nepali mental health researchers.
