Dr. Jasmine Henry is an Assistant Professor in Music at the University of Pennsylvania, affiliated with the School of Arts & Sciences. She holds a PhD in Musicology from Rutgers University (2022) and degrees in sound engineering and music business from William Paterson University. Her research focuses on DIY music practices, critical race theory, and hip-hop/R&B, examining intersections of race, place, and Black cultural production. She teaches courses like 'The Art of Production' and 'Beat Mixing & Composing at the Computer,' emphasizing music business and technology. As Newark School of the Arts’ Media Lab coordinator, she collaborates with institutions like NJPAC to design multimedia performances. Her work has been published in the Journal of the Society for American Music and Journal of Pan African Studies.
