Dr. Jasmin Packer is a Research Fellow at the University of Adelaide's School of Biological Sciences, within the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology department. She is affiliated with the Environment Institute and the Terrestrial Ecology Lab. Her work focuses on conservation biology, invasion science, and ecosystem responses to global change. Dr. Packer employs transdisciplinary methods, integrating basic and applied research with industry partners to enhance biodiversity conservation outcomes. She leads the Bandi Bunch team, dedicated to protecting threatened species like the southern brown bandicoot and rakali through community-driven initiatives and citizen science.
Her research emphasizes understanding ecological responses to disturbances and climate change, with a particular focus on invasive species, native flora and fauna, and habitat restoration. Key projects include studying the southern brown bandicoot's population dynamics and exploring native reedbed resilience. Dr. Packer also investigates urban ecosystems and the impacts of human activities on wildlife. She has advised several students, including Hayley Jose (PhD) and Eilish Thomas (PhD), on mammal ecology and conservation biology.
Publications highlight her contributions to invasion biology, conservation genetics, and citizen science applications. Her work bridges scientific research with practical management, aiming to inform policies and on-ground actions for biodiversity protection. Dr. Packer collaborates widely, fostering partnerships between academia, government, and community groups to achieve sustainable conservation outcomes.
