Dr. Jasmijn van Harten serves as an Associate Professor in Organisation Science at Utrecht University School of Governance (USG), part of the Faculty of Law, Economics and Governance. She holds significant leadership roles as Director of Education for the Master's program and Education for Professionals (including Executive Masters), and serves as a board member at USG. Her academic career spans over a decade with consistent contributions to human resource management and employability research.
Van Harten's research expertise centers on sustainable employability, human resource management in public sectors, and workplace well-being. She investigates how employers and employees can collaboratively invest in workers' development, motivation, and well-being, with particular attention to line managers' roles in boosting sustainable labor market participation. Her work bridges theoretical frameworks with practical applications, especially regarding inclusion of people with distance to the labor market. She has developed innovative instruments like the Hospital Career Mirror for self-assessment of employability and career possibilities.
Her publication record demonstrates consistent scholarly impact across healthcare management, public sector HRM, and employability research. Recent work explores lean implementation in healthcare, neuroinclusive HRM through the Autisme Werkt project, and early career development challenges. Her research methodology spans systematic literature reviews, multilevel qualitative studies, and instrument development, often examining the interplay between organizational practices and individual outcomes.
Van Harten actively supervises numerous PhD projects, particularly those focusing on sustainable employment for people with disabilities. She has mentored over 50 master's students on topics including sustainable employability, career development, and HRM contributions to organizational performance. Her research collaborations extend to institutions like KU Leuven and organizations including Dutch Railways (NS) and the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations.
She coordinates the Strategic HRM master's program and has contributed to professional development programs for middle managers in secondary education. An upcoming 2025 open-access handbook 'Shaping inclusive workplaces for persons with disabilities' co-edited by van Harten will further extend her impact in creating inclusive work environments through evidence-based HR practices.
