Jarred Younger is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham with secondary appointments in Anesthesiology and Rheumatology. He directs the Neuro-inflammation, Pain and Fatigue Laboratory.
Research develops diagnostic and treatment techniques for neuroinflammation-related conditions. Current projects investigate Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS), Gulf War Illness, and Long-COVID using neuroimaging and immunological approaches. The lab employs Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy and PET scanning to measure brain inflammation.
Research has been funded by NIH, Department of Defense, and nonprofit organizations. Recent publications examine inflammatory biomarkers in fatigue disorders and neuroimaging approaches to pain pathophysiology.
