Jared P. Rutter, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Utah and a member of the Nuclear Control of Cell Growth and Differentiation Program at Huntsman Cancer Institute. His research focuses on how cells sense and regulate energy needs for growth, with particular emphasis on metabolic pathways and their roles in cancer and metabolic diseases.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from Brigham Young University
- PhD from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, advised by Steven L. McKnight
- Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center
Research Interests: Metabolism regulation, cell signaling, mitochondrial function, and the interplay between energy metabolism and cancer biology. His work explores how metabolic pathways are rewired in cancer cells and how these pathways can be targeted for therapy.
Recent Research Trends: His articles emphasize mitochondrial metabolism, lactate utilization, and the role of pyruvate in cell growth and disease. Key themes include metabolic reprogramming in cancer, cardiac metabolism, and the development of novel therapeutic strategies.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Rutter Lab, which integrates biochemical, genetic, and computational approaches to study metabolic control mechanisms.
Grants and Collaborations: Active in collaborative projects on metabolic disease mechanisms and cancer metabolism, with funding from NIH and other agencies.
