Jared Kreiner is a Lecturer at Christopher Newport University, affiliated with the Department of History and Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures. He holds a PhD in History from the University of Chicago, following MAs from Salisbury University and the University of Chicago, and a BA in Classical Studies from Christopher Newport University.
His research focuses on Roman provincial administration, indigenous resistance to Roman imperialism, and the social history of the Roman military. Central to his work is the exploration of how administrative institutions like the census, taxation, and conscription contributed to provincial revolts during the early Principate. His current book project examines the relationship between administrative practices and revolts in the Roman Empire.
Recent publications analyze topics such as veteran settlement challenges, the Tacfarinian Revolt's impact on Roman governance, and fiscal pressures in Gaul. His work bridges military history and imperial administration, offering fresh perspectives on Roman control mechanisms.
