Jared A. Ellias

Jared A. Ellias is the Scott C. Collins Professor of Law at Harvard Law School. Previously, he held roles such as Visiting Associate Professor at Boston University School of Law and founding Faculty Director of the Center for Business Law at UC Hastings. He joined Harvard in 2022 after extensive academic and legal experience.

His research focuses on corporate bankruptcy law, governance of large firms, and empirical legal studies. Key themes include bankruptcy's impact on employees, regulatory frameworks, and financial markets.

Notable awards include the American Bankruptcy Institute’s 40 Under 40 (2020) and the UC Hastings Foundation Faculty Award. His work frequently addresses corporate restructuring, activist investors, and bankruptcy’s societal effects.

He advises lawmakers on bankruptcy issues, including the 2019 Pacific Gas & Electric Company case. Teaching includes courses on corporate restructuring and failed corporations.

Prior to academia, he practiced at Brown Rudnick LLP, representing creditors in bankruptcy proceedings.
