She is also a member of the LBI - KU Leuven Brain Institute and actively contributes to interdisciplinary research on movement sciences and brain health in aging populations.
Her research interests focus on the complex relationships between physical activity, health, and well-being across the lifespan, with particular emphasis on healthy aging. Key areas include:
- Cognitive functioning in older adults
- Sedentary behavior patterns and health impacts
- Sleep-physical activity interactions
- Behavioral epidemiology of active lifestyles
- Experimental and observational research methodologies
- Physical activity interventions for elderly populations
Dr. van Uffelen's publication record demonstrates consistent focus on systematic reviews examining physical activity's role in aging, with particular attention to sleep outcomes, cognitive function, and social determinants. Her work bridges epidemiological research with practical interventions for healthy aging.
She serves on multiple academic committees including the Faculty Council FaBeR, the Doctoral Committee for Movement and Rehabilitation Sciences, and the Departmental Council for Human Movement Sciences as a ZAP member, reflecting her significant institutional leadership.
Her teaching portfolio includes advanced courses on Research Topics in Physical Activity Epidemiology, Data Analysis in Movement Sciences, and Physical Activity and Health, demonstrating her commitment to training the next generation of researchers in evidence-based approaches to movement science.
