Jannie Møller Hartley is a Professor of Communication and Journalism at Roskilde University's Department of Communication and Arts. She leads the Centre for News Research and the DataPublics research project, focusing on journalism’s role in datafied societies. Her work bridges Journalism Studies, Audience Research, and Data Science, examining algorithmic governance, news personalization, and democratic publics.
Her research interests include governance by algorithms, critical data studies, and the intersection of everyday life with datafication. She co-leads the Centre for Big Data at Roskilde University and collaborates on EU projects like DiRec (diversity in news recommendation systems) and MUCS (media use during crises like climate change and COVID-19). Her book Designing the News explores algorithmic reshaping of journalism and publics.
Key projects include investigating #MeToo media coverage, platformization effects on news autonomy, and the ethical implications of AI-driven journalism. She advises on media ethics and is a leading voice in丹麦新闻学教育, contributing to textbooks like Nyhedsjournalistens metoder.
