Janja Hojnik serves as Full Professor at the University of Maribor Faculty of Law, where she concurrently holds the position of Vice-Dean for Research (2023-2027) and Head of the European Legal Studies Programme (since 2019). Her institutional affiliations extend internationally through her role as Global Law Professor at KU Leuven Faculty of Law and Criminology (2023) and membership on the Advisory Board of the Common Market Law Review (Leiden University).
Her research portfolio centers on EU Internal Market Law with specialized expertise in free movement of goods/services, price regulation mechanisms, servitization processes, and digital economy governance. She maintains dual scholarly interests in substantive EU law and meta-legal issues including research assessment methodologies, academic integrity frameworks, and conflict of interest management systems.
Professor Hojnik's publication trajectory from 2012-2021 reveals progressive specialization from foundational free movement analysis toward emerging regulatory challenges in digital markets and sustainable business models. Her work consistently appears in premier EU law journals with particular emphasis on practical implementation challenges of EU legal principles.
Her scientific recognition includes:
- European Commission Jean Monnet Chair on smart and sharing economy law
- Six-time ranking among Slovenia's 10 most influential lawyers (2011-2022)
As an educator, she supervises extensive thesis work (100+ theses), coaches EU Law Moot Court teams, and directs the longstanding Slovenian law student negotiations competition. Her active Jean Monnet projects provide substantial research infrastructure and international collaboration opportunities for students.
She contributes to academic governance through editorial roles and participates in the Brown Bag Lunch Group, an international network addressing technology policy challenges. Her current PhD studies in History at Maribor's Faculty of Arts demonstrate ongoing scholarly development beyond her primary legal expertise.
