Janie Corley is a Research Fellow at the School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences, University of Edinburgh, with over 20 years of expertise in psychometric testing and ageing research. As a core member of the Lothian Birth Cohorts team, she contributes to BBSRC-funded waves 6 and 7 of the Lothian Birth Cohort 1936 project.
Her educational background includes:
- PhD by Publication, Psychology, University of Edinburgh, 2015
- MA Hons (1st), Psychology, University of Glasgow, 1993
Dr. Corley's research investigates life-course and environmental influences on cognitive decline, brain ageing, well-being, and longevity in older adults. Her work emphasizes dietary patterns, gardening, and lifestyle factors using longitudinal data from the Lothian Birth Cohorts, bridging gerontology, nutritional neuroscience, and environmental psychology.
Her 2018-2024 publications reveal consistent interdisciplinary focus on cognitive ageing mechanisms, with increasing attention to environmental interventions (e.g., gardening) and dietary impacts on mortality. The research predominantly utilizes the Lothian Birth Cohorts 1921/1936 datasets across gerontology, epidemiology, and neuroimaging domains.
Supported by UK Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council funding, she operates as a Researcher-Co-Investigator within the Lothian Birth Cohorts team but has no formal students listed in available records.
She is an integral member of the Lothian Birth Cohorts research team conducting longitudinal studies on cognitive ageing at the University of Edinburgh's Psychology department.
