Janice Wellington is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the School of Nursing at the University of Indianapolis, where she teaches Acute Transitional Nursing Care and serves as a Nursing Success Coach. She is a UIndy alumna (BSN ’99, MSN ’16) and has worked in nursing for over 40 years, including part-time roles at Franciscan Health. Her academic mission focuses on mentorship, student success, and fostering compassionate care. She co-developed the Nursing Success Coaching Program to support academic progression, wellness, and professional readiness through mentorship and resources.
Education: BSN (1999) and MSN (2016) from the University of Indianapolis. Her career spans diverse clinical roles, including critical care, emergency room nursing, and supervisory positions. She emphasizes holistic education, advocating for equity and inclusion, particularly for students of color. Notable achievements include enhancing student outcomes via innovative teaching methods and mentoring students like a Saudi Arabian nursing student who overcame academic challenges with her guidance.
She partners with the UIndy Simulation Center and local hospitals to provide clinical experience. Beyond academia, she volunteers in flower gardening and church worship at Heartland Church. Her philosophy, inspired by Ralph Waldo Emerson, stresses inner resilience: “What lies within us shapes our potential more than past or future circumstances.”
