Janice Aski is a Professor of Italian & Romance Linguistics and Director at The Ohio State University's Department of French and Italian, housed within the College of Arts and Sciences. Her expertise spans World Language Pedagogy and Italian/Romance Historical Linguistics. She holds a B.A. in Italian/Economics (1986), M.A. in Italian (1991), M.Ling. in Linguistics from the University of Manchester (1992), and a Ph.D. in Italian/Romance Linguistics (1997), all from the University of Wisconsin-Madison except her master's in linguistics.
Her research focuses on foreign language pedagogy (testing, reading, and grammar practice aligned with second language acquisition research) and historical linguistics (social/pragmatic/cognitive aspects of phonological/morphological change). She emphasizes curriculum development to foster Intercultural Competence. Notable works include the textbook Avanti! and the monograph Iconicity and Analogy in Language Change.
