Dr. Janice A. Brockley is an Associate Professor of History at Jackson State University (JSU), located in Jackson, Mississippi. She is affiliated with the Department of History and Philosophy within the College of Liberal Arts. Her academic background includes a Ph.D. in History from Rutgers University (2001) and a B.A. in History from the Robert D. Clark Honors College at the University of Oregon (1991). Her research focuses on Disability History, the History of Childhood and Youth, and broader themes in American Social History.
Dr. Brockley’s work critically examines intersections between disability, family dynamics, and social policy. Her publications include influential reviews in the Journal of American History and contributions to edited volumes such as Encyclopedia of American Disability History. She has also explored historical cases involving disability and legal ethics, such as mercy killings in early 20th-century New York City. Her writing spans both academic critique and accessible reference material.
