Janet van Hell is Professor of Psychology and Linguistics at Pennsylvania State University, where she also serves as Co-Director of the Social, Life, and Engineering Sciences Imaging Center (SLEIC) and Co-Director of the Center for Language Science. She leads the Bilingualism and Language Development (BiLD) Lab, investigating neurocognitive aspects of bilingual language use.

Research Interests:
Her work centers on bilingualism, second language acquisition, and the neurocognitive mechanisms underlying language development. Using EEG/ERP, behavioral, and linguistic techniques, her lab explores cross-language interaction, code-switching, and foreign-accented speech comprehension. The ‘brain bus’, a mobile EEG lab, extends her research into schools and public outreach.
