Janet Welby serves as an Assistant Teaching Professor of Music and Student Teaching Program Supervisor in the Music Department at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell's College of Fine Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. She teaches music theory, conducting, pedagogy, and global music courses while conducting choirs and performing on piano, clarinet, and recorder.
Her academic credentials include:
- Ph.D. in Leadership in Schooling from University of Massachusetts, Lowell
- M.M. in Music Education from University of Massachusetts, Lowell
- B.M. in Applied Clarinet from New England Conservatory of Music, Boston
Her research critically examines positionality of Euro-Western trained educators in diverse classrooms, focusing on strategies for integrating multicultural perspectives and supporting underrepresented groups through culturally responsive music education practices.
