Dr. Janet Sue Rader is the Jack A. & Elaine D. Klieger Professor and Chair in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She leads the Gynecologic Oncology Division and Program, and is a member of the Cancer Center, the Center for Disease Prevention Research (CDPR), and the Mellowes Center for Genomic Sciences and Precision Medicine. With 261 publications to her name, Dr. Rader is a prominent figure in gynecologic oncology research and clinical practice.
Dr. Rader's research primarily focuses on cervical and ovarian cancers, with particular expertise in HPV integration mechanisms, cancer genomics, and molecular pathways. Her work spans basic science investigations of viral oncology to clinical trials evaluating novel therapeutic approaches. She has made significant contributions to understanding how HPV integration events impact host genome regulation in cervical cancer and has investigated biomarker patterns in ovarian granulosa cell tumors. Her research integrates genomic, transcriptomic, and epigenomic approaches to identify therapeutic vulnerabilities and develop precision medicine strategies for gynecological cancers.
Analysis of Dr. Rader's recent publications reveals a strong focus on molecular mechanisms of gynecological cancers, particularly HPV integration events in cervical cancer and molecular characterization of ovarian cancer subtypes. Her work frequently employs advanced genomic technologies to investigate cancer biology and identify potential therapeutic targets. Recent publications highlight her contributions to understanding HPV integration sites, developing biomarkers for cancer diagnosis and progression, and evaluating novel therapeutic approaches including immunotherapy combinations and targeted agents.
Dr. Rader is actively involved in mentoring and workforce development, as evidenced by her work on the Student-centered Pipeline to Advance Research in Cancer Careers (SPARCC) initiative, which focuses on diversifying the clinical cancer research workforce. Her leadership extends to clinical trial design and implementation, with involvement in studies evaluating novel therapeutic approaches for gynecological cancers.
Dr. Rader's laboratory and research team focus on translational research that bridges basic science discoveries with clinical applications in gynecologic oncology. Her work involves collaborations across multiple research centers at the Medical College of Wisconsin, leveraging expertise in genomics, molecular biology, and clinical oncology to advance understanding and treatment of gynecological cancers.
