Janet Clare

Professor Janet Clare serves as an Honorary Professor of English at the University of Bristol. She has delivered lectures at numerous institutions across Europe (Austria, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Poland) as well as in Brazil and Japan.

Her scholarly work centers on Early Modern English Literature, with key interests in censorship during the early modern period, Renaissance drama (particularly revenge tragedy and the drama of the Civil War and English Republic), and the dynamics of theatre traffic in the early modern stage. Current research explores the influence of cosmographical knowledge circulation in England on the early modern English literary imagination.

Professor Clare is a member of the international team editing the Oxford Complete Works of John Marston (an AHRC-funded project) and co-edits "Migrating Shakespeare: First European Encounters, Routes and Networks" with Professor Dominique Goy-Blanquet of Université de Picardie.
