Dr. Jane Whitelaw is a Lecturer and OHS Academic Program Director at the University of Wollongong's School of Health and Society, within the Faculty of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities. She holds a PhD and has over 30 years of industry experience in occupational hygiene, focusing on respiratory protection and occupational disease prevention. Her roles include leading academic programs, supervising research students (e.g., Kerrie Burton), and contributing to professional standards via committees like Standards Australia SF10.
Education includes a PhD Candidate status (2015–2015), M.Sc. in Environmental Health (University of Western Sydney, 1996–1998), and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Science: OHS (Newcastle University, 1988–1990). Certifications include Certified Occupational Hygienist (AIOH) and Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH, American Board).
Her research emphasizes evaluating respiratory protection efficacy against hazards like diesel particulate matter (DPM), bushfire smoke, and alpha-diketones in coffee processing.
