Jane Sedgewick is an Assistant Professor in Education at the School of Education and Social Work, University of Sussex. With over 30 years of experience, her career spans Montessori and primary teaching, Local Authority advisory roles in art/design/culture, leadership of Advanced Skills Teachers, and School Improvement advisorship for Ofsted inspections. She previously taught Digital Media at the University of Hull and holds affiliations with the Arts Council as an Artsmark/Arts Award Advisor and executive member of a national art & design advisors association.
Her research examines transformative educational practices through reflective sketchbooks and visual/design-led approaches to enhance cognitive processes. Teaching interests emphasize Art & Design, Design & Technology, and Reflective Practice pedagogy, particularly utilizing sketchbooks for professional development.
