Emerita Professor Jane Phillips is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) within the Faculty of Health. She previously served as the inaugural Director of the IMPACCT Centre, leading interdisciplinary research to enhance palliative care globally. Her work focuses on optimizing care transitions, evidence-based palliative care, and patient-centered outcomes. Phillips has secured over $40 million in competitive grants and co-authored 150+ publications. She mentors doctoral students and serves on editorial boards for journals like Collegian and Palliative Medicine.
Education & Leadership: Prior to UTS, she held roles at the University of Notre Dame and Sacred Heart Hospice. She currently chairs the Scientific Committee of the Wolfson Palliative Care Research Centre (UK) and is President of Palliative Care Nurses Australia.
Research Interests: Her work addresses palliative care delivery challenges, including symptom management (pain, breathlessness), non-pharmacological interventions, and healthcare equity for marginalized populations such as incarcerated individuals. She emphasizes co-design approaches with patients and clinicians to improve care quality.
Awards & Impact: Recognized with the 2018 Dean’s Academic Excellence Award and Fellowship from the Australian College of Nursing. Her contributions span policy advocacy, nursing leadership, and translational research initiatives.
Grants & Teams: Under her leadership, the IMPACCT team secured $40.34M in grants since 2014, averaging 41 annual PhD candidates. Collaborations include the Palliative Care Clinical Studies Collaborative (PaCCSC) and a Consumer Advisory Group for patient-focused research.
