Dr. Jane Peacock is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Social Work at the University of Winchester, within the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing. She combines over 15 years of social work practice, voluntary sector management, and academic expertise. Her work focuses on marginalized groups, particularly Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller (GRT) communities, addressing their health, housing, and social needs through both practice and research.
Professional Background: Jane previously served as General Manager of a voluntary organization delivering community development programs for children and young people in Hampshire. She has extensive experience in fundraising, strategic management, and organizational development within the voluntary sector.
Research & Education: Jane’s research examines systemic barriers faced by GRT communities, including healthcare access and cultural identity preservation. She has authored multiple studies commissioned by governmental and academic bodies. As a qualified practice educator, she supports student social workers on placements and has delivered keynote addresses at national and international conferences on working with excluded groups. Her Taught PhD (2020) deepened her expertise in community-based social work.
Awards & Memberships: Recognized as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and a member of the British Association of Social Workers (BASF), Jane contributes to advancing social work education and equity in practice.
