Dr. Jane Lugea is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Arts, English and Languages at Queen's University Belfast. Her research focuses on cognitive stylistics, discourse analysis, and the relationship between textual patterns and reader cognition. She employs qualitative textual analysis, quantitative corpus methods, and empirical approaches to examine literary texts, forensic statements, and digital media.
Research interests include cognitive stylistics, discourse analysis, translation studies, and reader response theory. Her work bridges literature, linguistics, and cognitive science to understand how language shapes reader perception.
Recent publications focus on dementia representation in fiction and reader cognition, with interdisciplinary approaches combining literary analysis with medical humanities. Publications show consistent focus on narrative cognition and linguistic patterns in specialized contexts.
Scientific awards include multiple research grants from AHRC-IAA and Higher Education Academy, recognizing contributions to linguistic research and digital scholarship.
Dr. Lugea leads the New Methods for New Media network and co-founded the Digital Scholarship Hub. She supervises PhD students in stylistics and discourse analysis and serves on committees for the Poetics and Linguistics Association.
