Jane L. Liesveld

Jane L. Liesveld, M.D. is a Professor in the Department of Medicine, Hematology/Oncology at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. She is a member of the University of Rochester Medical Faculty Group (URMFG) and Accountable Health Partners (AHP), a network of over 2,000 medical faculty and hospitals in the region. Dr. Liesveld is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Hematology, Internal Medicine, and Medical Oncology.

Dr. Liesveld received her medical degree from the University of Iowa Roy J & Lucille A Carver College of Medicine in 1980. She completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center (1980-1984), followed by fellowships in Hematology (1984-1987), Medical Oncology (1987-1988), and Research (1988-1989), all at the University of Rochester.

Her research focuses on novel therapies for acute myeloid leukemia, stem cell mobilization and homing, and stem cell transplantation. She examines the effects of oxygen metabolites and chemokines on hematopoietic stem cell expansion, the role of hematopoietic growth factors in AML blast proliferation, and signal transduction inhibition in leukemia treatment. Dr. Liesveld has developed assays to monitor minimal residual disease following treatment of patients with Acute Myeloid Leukemia or High Grade Myelodysplastic Syndrome.

Her recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on the bone marrow microenvironment's role in leukemia development and treatment resistance, with particular attention to metabolic pathways like taurine transport and glycolysis. Her research increasingly incorporates single-cell analysis and computational approaches to identify novel therapeutic targets in myeloid malignancies.

She is part of the University of Rochester's cancer research community, collaborating with colleagues in the Wilmot Cancer Institute on translational research projects that bridge basic science discoveries with clinical applications for patients with hematologic malignancies.
