Jane Kotzmann is an Associate Professor at Deakin Law School whose research bridges animal rights and human rights law. Her scholarship examines the extension of international human rights frameworks to non-human animals and the theoretical foundations of rights-based approaches.
With expertise in animal sentience recognition and welfare legislation, Dr. Kotzmann's work has influenced policy discussions in Australia and internationally. She teaches courses in international law, administrative law, and animal rights, and has received multiple awards for her research contributions.
Before entering academia, Dr. Kotzmann practiced commercial litigation and participated in the Teach for Australia program. Her current projects analyze the legal and ethical implications of recognizing animal sentience across different jurisdictions.
