Jane Kerns is a Lecturer in the Department of Music at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (UHM). She holds a BA in Theatre from Ohio State University and advanced degrees (BM, MM in Vocal Performance and MA in Musicology) from UHM. Her research focuses on women’s contributions to music and musical theater. Kerns has performed in New York and Hawaiʻi, sung with Hawaiʻi’s Symphony Chorus and Hawaiʻi Opera Theatre, and contributed music/theater criticism to the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.
- Teaching: Developed course 'Curtain Up! Broadway Musicals, Then and Now.'

Research interests emphasize historical and cultural dimensions of musical theater and vocal performance, particularly women’s roles. She explores intersections of music, theater, and societal narratives through her academic work and artistic collaborations.
