Jane Jih

Jane Jih, MD, MPH, MAS is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Her roles include practicing general internal medicine and leading health equity research focused on multiethnic and linguistically diverse populations. She co-directs the UCSF Multiethnic Health Equity Research Center and the Asian American Research Center on Health, and chairs the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health Advisory Committee on Minority Health.

Research interests center on reducing health disparities through patient-centered interventions addressing social determinants of health, including food insecurity, transportation barriers, and language access. Methodological expertise includes qualitative research, photovoice methodologies, and community-based participatory research.

Recent work focuses on innovative communication strategies using patient-generated photos to improve chronic disease management and multilingual clinician training through direct observation assessments. Over 100 peer-reviewed publications span topics like health equity, aging populations, and culturally tailored interventions.

Scientific awards include the 2023 Robert H. Crede Award and multiple NIH grants including K23 and R33 funding. Current grants total over $15 million across studies like the ASPIRE Cohort for Asian American health research and transportation voucher programs to reduce healthcare access barriers.
