Professor Dame Jane Jiang is a Professor of Precision Metrology at the University of Huddersfield and Chief Scientist of the Centre for Precision Technologies. She leads the EPSRC Future Metrology Hub and holds a Renishaw/Royal Academy of Engineering Chair. Her expertise spans precision metrology, optical sensors, and smart manufacturing systems. Jane completed a PhD in measurement science (1995) and earned a DSc in precision metrology (2007), alongside an honorary DSc from City University London (2019).
Her research focuses on surface metrology fundamentals, mathematical modeling for freeform surfaces, and advanced optical techniques like interferometry and deflectometry. She has secured £25M+ in grants, published 500+ papers, and contributed to ISO standards. Key roles include membership in EPSRC, STFC, and Wales Science Advisory Council.
Honors include DBE (2017), Royal Society Wolfson Merit Award (2006), and recognition by the Queen for contributions to engineering. Her work bridges academia and industry, advancing ultra-precision engineering through initiatives like the Royal Society’s 2011 Scientific Discussion Meeting.
