Jane Hanley is a Professor specializing in transnational cultural production, multilingual environments, and Spanish language education. She holds leadership roles such as former Chair of Languages and Cultures and Interim Head of the Department of International Studies. Her research explores travel writing, gender in popular culture, and transnational education pedagogy. Hanley serves on the Editorial Committee of the Journal of Iberian and Latin American Research.

Recent work focuses on Guillermo del Toro's genre hybridity and Mexico's representation in Spanish travel writing.

Teaching encompasses 14 units ranging from Spanish language studies to international collaborative learning design, including courses on citizenship, transnationalism, and visual cultures.
Current projects include the World Literatures and Cultures initiative and Multilingualism Research Centre collaborations. Past projects investigated Australian women travelers in Spain (1898-1939) and transnational mobile frontiers.
