Dr Jane Grant is an Associate Professor in Visual Arts and Associate Head of School for Graduate Affairs at the University of Plymouth's School of Art, Design and Architecture. Her practice spans art, writing, and academia, with a focus on sound art, immersive environments, and interdisciplinary collaboration. She is renowned for works like The Fragmented Orchestra (PRSF Award 2008) and Between Us (2019), exploring themes of haunting, astrophysics, and human-tech interaction.
Her research interests include experimental sound art, installation practices, and technoetic arts, with contributions to journals like Leonardo and co-editing the Oxford Handbook of Sound Art. She teaches on the Creative Media BA and supervises over 30 PhD candidates, focusing on topics like neuroaesthetics, digital porosity, and decolonial methodologies.
Awards include the PRSF New Music Award for collaborative sonic art. Her work intersects with EU-funded doctoral programs (Cognovo) and explores speculative design, wearable tech, and posthumanist theory. Current projects investigate immersive AR environments and the intersection of art with scientific disciplines.
