Jane Farmer

Prof. Jane Farmer is a Professor of Health & Social Innovation at Swinburne University of Technology. She leads research in place-based social connection, community mental health, and ageing. Her work spans rural health systems, technology-driven community engagement, and interdisciplinary collaboration between STEM and HASS fields. Previously, she directed the Social Innovation Research Institute at Swinburne, served as Associate PVC Research at La Trobe University, and led the La Trobe Rural Health School.

Current projects focus on community collaborations, capacity-building, and social innovation in ageing. She has advised governments, councils, and NGOs internationally. Jane supervises doctoral candidates in social connection and health equity. Key grants include ARC-funded projects on community sport impact, social connection toolkits, and rural resilience.

Her research emphasizes innovative methodologies, including digital technologies and participatory frameworks. Notable roles include Co-Director at the Centre for Rural Health Research (Scotland) and leadership in data co-operative platforms for social wellbeing.
