معرفی
Dr. Jane Choi is a Research Fellow at The University of Western Australia's School of Human Sciences and a Research Officer at The Kids Research Institute Australia. She recently completed her PhD in Physiology in December 2023, focusing on interventions to improve lung health in premature infants.
Her educational background includes:
- PhD in Physiology from The University of Western Australia (2023)
- BPhil (Hons) in Physiology, Anatomy and Human Biology (2013-2017)
Dr. Choi's research centers on the critical intersection of circadian biology and neonatal lung development. She investigates how premature birth disrupts the development of babies' biological clocks and how this affects lifelong lung health. Her innovative work explores simple, implementable interventions that can improve outcomes for the over 3,000 premature babies born annually in Western Australia. Her research spans both basic science using translational models and clinical applications focused on aligning treatments with natural circadian rhythms to enhance efficacy.
Analysis of Dr. Choi's publication record reveals a strong focus on respiratory outcomes in preterm infants, with particular attention to gas exchange mechanisms, lung development, and the impact of inflammation and oxidative stress. Her work bridges basic physiological research with clinical applications, demonstrating a commitment to translational science that can directly benefit patients.
Dr. Choi's scientific achievements have been recognized with numerous awards:
- Wal-yan Respiratory Research Centre Seed Funding Grant (2022)
- Raine Collaboration Award (2024)
- Illuminate Award (2024)
- Stan and Jean Perron Post-PhD Career Launching Award (2023)
- New Investigator Award (2023)
Dr. Choi currently leads the Raine Foundation project 'Unravelling the mysteries of neonatal lung clocks to improve lifelong health and well-being of premature babies' as Principal Investigator. She previously contributed to the Channel 7 Telethon Trust project on nebulized surfactant delivery. Her collaborative approach is evident in her membership with the Perinatal Society of Australia and New Zealand (2021-2022) and the Australian Society for Medical Research (2020-2022).
Her research group focuses on understanding the fundamental biology of circadian rhythm during lung development using translational models of preterm birth, with the goal of developing interventions that can be easily implemented to improve lifelong outcomes for premature infants.
