Dr Jane Brown is an Honorary Fellow at the Moray House School of Education and Sport, University of Edinburgh, with a career focused on understanding children's and young people's experiences in educational settings. She teaches research ethics to postgraduate students and serves as Ethics Officer for the school.

Her research spans the social study of childhood, participation and citizenship in schools, school violence, and qualitative methodologies. She has explored the use of CCTV technologies in educational environments and ethics in researching children's social worlds.
Dr Brown has supervised doctoral students in diverse areas including inclusive education in China, teacher values in Greece, queerphobia in Scottish secondary schools, and peer-bullying in Ghana. Her funded projects include collaborations with institutions like the Gordon Cook Foundation, BERA, and the Welsh Assembly.
