Janani Mohan

Janani Mohan is a Gates Cambridge Scholar and researcher at the University of Cambridge, affiliated with the Department of Politics and International Studies (POLIS) and St. John’s College. Her work focuses on nuclear energy policy, deterrence theory, and conflict prevention, particularly addressing the weaponization of nuclear facilities during conflicts.

• Education: Master in International Policy from Stanford University (Ford Dorsey and McCaw Fellow), Bachelor in Political Science from UC Berkeley
• Policy Experience: Collaborated with the United Nations Innovation Cell to analyze open-source intelligence from the Ukraine War; consulted for the United Nations Development Programme in South Africa to expand technology access for marginalized youth; supported nuclear nonproliferation initiatives at the U.S. Department of State

She has authored publications with organizations like the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists, Stimson Center, and Smithsonian Institution. During the pandemic, Janani co-founded a nonprofit providing virtual career and mental health mentorship in over 35 countries.
