Prof. Jana Pavāre is the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Associate Professor in the Department of Paediatrics at Riga Stradiņš University (RSU). She holds concurrent roles as Head Specialist in Paediatrics at the Ministry of Health and Deputy Head of the Children's Clinical University Hospital. Her academic journey includes a Medical Doctor degree (1996), Residency in Pediatrics (1998), and a PhD in 2011 from RSU. Pavāre has extensive international collaboration experience, including organizing visiting professorships with institutions like Washington University and University of Leeds.
Her research focuses on severe bacterial infections and sepsis in children, biomarker development, and pediatric infectious disease management. She leads major projects such as the EU-funded PERFORM (HORIZON 2020) and is an investigator in Latvia's biomedical research programs. Key achievements include authoring national antibiotic therapy guidelines and pioneering diagnostic algorithms for febrile children.
Pavāre actively participates in global initiatives like the European Association of Paediatric Infectious Diseases and has organized major conferences such as the Baltic Pediatric Congress. Her work bridges clinical practice and research, emphasizing early diagnosis and evidence-based protocols. She supervises educational programs in Pediatrics and mentors over 20 residents/doctors, contributing to both academic and clinical advancements in Latvian healthcare.
