Jana Pavare

Jana Pavare is Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Associate Professor in the Department of Paediatrics at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU). She also serves as Deputy Head of the Clinic of Pediatrics at Children's Clinical University Hospital and as Head Specialist in Paediatrics at the Ministry of Health of Latvia. Her academic and clinical leadership spans medical education, research, and public health policy.

Her research focuses on the diagnosis of severe bacterial infections and sepsis in children, with a special interest in biomarkers of inflammation such as ADAMTS-13 and immature granulocytes. She has led and participated in major international research projects including the Horizon 2020 PERFORM project and Latvia’s State Programme in Biomedicine for Public Health.

Her recent publications highlight trends in pediatric fever management, parental health-seeking behaviors, sepsis biomarkers, antibiotic stewardship, and evidence-based treatment algorithms for community-acquired pneumonia. Her work bridges clinical practice, laboratory research, and public health implementation.

Scientific awards and recognitions include:

• Chair of the Scientific Committee for Children's Health Days (2016–2018)
• Chair of the Scientific Committee for the 3rd Baltic Pediatric Congress (2015)
• Author of national rational pharmacotherapy guidelines for pediatric antibiotic use (2015)

She has supervised 2 doctoral theses and 18 resident research projects, and has been involved in numerous educational initiatives, including organizing visiting professorships and leading curriculum development. She also contributes to international projects such as ARPEC and Global-PPS, and holds a patent on the prognosis of systemic inflammatory response syndrome in children.

She is a member of the Association of Pediatricians of Latvia and the European Association of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, and has participated in leadership training at the Stockholm School of Economics. Her work significantly impacts pediatric care standards in Latvia and across Europe.
